Sop Cop is a famous tourist destination in Son La province, Vietnam. Located in the northwest of Vietnam, about 35 km from Son La city center, Sop Cop has magnificent natural landscapes and diverse landscapes. Below are some attractions and experiences in Sop Cop:
Muong Va Ancient Tower is an ancient architectural work built in the 17th century, located in Muong Va village, Muong Va commune, Sop Cop district, Son La province, Vietnam. This tower has a unique aesthetic and artistic construction style, placed on an artificially raised hillock, about 15m high if surrounded by ground. The special feature of the tower is that it was built in series, with no doors, and divided into 4 equal sides, each facing one direction. Muong Va Tower is divided into 5 floors, built of bricks with a length of 35cm, width 15cm, thickness 6cm. Although the age of the tower is not clearly committed, according to legend, it has existed for about 400 years. Muong Va Tower is recognized as a National Architectural and Artistic Monument
Sop Cop Nature Reserve is a special-use forest located in Sop Cop district, Son La province, Vietnam. With an area of 18,709 hectares, of which 67% is forested land, this conservation area includes three functional subdivisions:
Strictly protected zone: Area of 5,149 hectares, managed to protect rare animal and plant species.
Ecological restoration subdivision: Area of 13,541 hectares, aiming to restore and maintain the natural ecosystem.
Administrative and service subdivision: Area of 19 hectares, serving tourism management and development.
Sop Cop Conservation Area is located in the mountainous region of northwestern Vietnam, with hilly and steep terrain, stretching from 450 to 1,940 m on the high belt. Located in the basin where water sources flow into the Ma River, this reserve has a high diversity of animals and plants,
At Sop Cop Nature Reserve, you will find many endemic and rare animal species. Here are some notable species:
Saola (Pseudoryx nhitinhensis): An animal that looks like an antelope, lives in mountain forests and is facing the risk of extinction.
Great muntjac (Muntiacus vuquangensis): A special species of muntjac, often found in high mountain areas.
Striped civet (Chrotogale owstoni): A small species of civet, with characteristic fur.
Star pheasant (Rheinardia ocellata): Beautiful bird with colorful feathers.
Truong Son striped rabbit (Nesolagus timminsi): Endemic rabbit species of the Northwest mountains.
Gibbon (Nomascus annamensis): Gibbons are endangered.
Gray-footed and brown-footed langurs (Pygathrix spp): Adorable and rare langur species.
Besides, Sop Cop Nature Reserve also has a rich flora with many diverse tree species. Based on research and statistics, it has been determined:
Vascular plants: The reserve has recorded 640 species of vascular plants, belonging to 429 genera and 138 families. These tree species contribute to the biodiversity of the area.
Edible plants: Of the 114 recorded species, 81 are wild and 43 are cultivated. The vegetable group is the most diverse with 52 species, followed by the fruit group with 39 species and the spice plant group with 21 species.
